All,

I am curious if anyone has info on the background of Fruitella from BestCoast Genetics. Specifically, I am curious whether there is any C. rudiralis in the lineage. All the info I have is that Seeds Here Now says that it is a cross of a Strawberry Banana X Juice (Tangie X Afghan Berry).

I have two plants that are finishing at around 45 cm tall and bearing leaves with five leaflets. So - they are short and have the leaflet number (and approximate leaflet size) you would expect from C. rudiralis as described by Anderson (1980).

It is important to note that I grew them at 12:12 from germination and maintained LEDs approximately 60 cm from the soil surface. I topped one once and let the other grow naturally, both are ~45 cm tall.

Any information on this strain, grow reports, etc would be greatly appreciated. Likewise, any info on sussing out C. rudiralis genetics in strain's backgrounds in general.

Thanks heaps!

JB

Usually unless specified otherwise most strains with ruderalis genetics are marketed as autoflowers, that being said you never know what goes on in the breeding rooms of each specific breeder and due to the fact prohibition has stamped out any real meaningful studies on cannabis and its variants up until recently it could have a multitude of different strains in its lineage, from the leaf structure I would say there is some ruderalis in it, but without sending it away to be tested it would be impossible to know for sure if it is ruderalis or a genetic trait that caused it to spit the 3 finger leaves, I'm leaning towards it having some ruderalis in it, only way to really know is to slap another seed in the tent and run it at 24/0 and see if it flowers on its own or continues to veg, you would know pretty quick after 4-5 weeks.

I feel like a, like a slice of butter... melting on top of a big-ol' pile of flapjacks... yeah.

Some breeders will add the ruderalis in to speed up flowering times but still being photoperiod they'll normally name them (insert strain name) fast version

@mr_bud That is my suspicion. BestCoast notably has zero information available on their Instagram and no website. Little shady.

@mr_bud I suspect that they are F1s (so, essentially testers, but not sold as such). There is no information about the strain that I can find on the web at large either, save one forum post somewhere in which someone announces that they are going to grow them but never follows-up. Frankly, the whole thing has turned me off to BestCoast, not a breeder I would trust going forward.

It is a shame, they are very frosty, have a rather nice heady fuel / incense / citrus-pine kind of smell and they were very easy to grow. Just don't know if anyone can expect them to yield, and who knows how they will smoke. More on that later... 😉

To be honest, I was only interested in this strain because of the purported Juice genetics (supposedly Tangie X Afghan Berry), but I don't think that can outweigh the mystery auto genes in there (not a knock on autos, just not what I am trying to work with).

@mr_bud Best Coast does not have a website. They do have an Instagram page, but there are only a handful of posts, non of which has any information that isn't listed on the Seeds Here Now Page.

I think that their strains may be perfectly fine (and indeed, Fruitella seems quite nice in some ways), but the lack of information and transparency turns me off as I am primarily interested in breeding.

I should also note, I have DM'd them twice (once before germination, once a few days ago) and have not gotten a reply.
