Hi guys. My 2nd diary, 2nd grow but 1st time using soil. I feel like im brand new again so thought id stick to a simple schedule n see how i get on with ecothrive as i got some good seed strains for my nxt 2 grows so kinda experimenting n see wats best. Any tips for my grow, watering schedule n how much would be much appreciated. After the the last grow most of u will notice i need my hand held. But fairplay you were there every step of the way. Thanks guys. Also this time theyre not autos so am brand new to doing it this way. Wouldn't mind trying some training too. Well lets get these baby girls going i think. @shirley-boi, it's just like SEX man!! You'll never know till you do it. lol I'm sure there will be things from both that will attract you. It's not all about the grow process but the end product too. So go in with open eye's and make you determination after your smoke report. I can't wait to hear about it and then you can teach me.

I thought you was a o.g & had many grows under your belt.
Water till you get a run off then leave for 3 days roughly in veg lift the pot up stick a finger in the soil.
during seedling stage they don’t use much at all i water the same till I get a run off in 1l pots then leave till they dry off
during flowering they also use less water it could be 3-5 days in between.

@mix i did a grow in soil before with basic lights n no advice n it turned out awful so i dnt cout that time lol. But yea new to it i did coco last time. So u still water soil til u get a run off then. Thanks for that info cos i would have just givin em a little drop see lol
@shirley-boi No you dont have to water soil till you get a run off, soil probably takes longer to dryout than coco, you really just go by how dry the soil looks, thats what I do anyway,
Im using 15L pots at the moment, most of my grows iv been giving each plant 1 to 1.5 L of water a day, I'll give them half a liter (or a wee bit more) in the morning and then give them the rest later depending on how fast the soil drys, I usually like to have my top layer of soil dry and a bit cracked looking like a desert.
But I try to aviod run off, you'll soon get the feel of it when you start, you wont have to worry about big waterings for a while yet tho, Iv started using a 5ml syringe for watering my seedlings and young plants now, it's a very handy way of avoiding overwatering them.

@stootie thanks for this info bro. My soils just been delivered now so gonna get the seeds in some paper towel now n get it going. I think instead of planting straight into big pots il mix the soil n coco i have left to start in small pots just incase i burn them

every day just goes to show how many methods there are all ending up the same result. I was reading jcs book & he goes on about various ways some growers water must admit your the 1st I’ve met that waters every day not that that’s a bad thing at all not one iota it’s a good thing tbh to see various ways as you can get to choose the one that’s right for you as long as you keep on top of it.
@mix yea sorry mate I didn't notice you had been speaking about watering in your comment till after I left my comment, I thought Shirley boi was just randomly asking about watering so I jumped in with my answer, I wasn't meaning to sound like this was the "correct" way of doing it or anything.lol thats just how I do it and my soil will be different to everyone elses because its not bought stuff 🙂

And we are off. Just mixing some coco with the ecothrive to put into smaller pots or i might just fill pots with ecothrive and dig a hole in it n fill with the mix of coco n soil. Just so the roots dnt burn
Guys am i right in thinking ph in soil should be around 6 to 7. I did mine at 6.2 before. Thanks in advance

so I’ll take a stab 6.2 is a tad low tbf 6.5-7 is better in soil
That said you can go as low as 6.3 so I’ve heard alou tbh I always stick around the 6.5 mark

@shirley-boi Iv never checked soil ph since I started growing so I cant help you on that im afraid.lol
I wouldn't go flat out with the lights right away, it'll be an led your using is it, both my lights can go pretty close to the plants with a lot of power but different lights with different power might no be the same.
I had my lights about 10-12" above my seedlings but I wouldnt go that low right away.
The best way is to play about with the light and see if the plant is handeling it ok, im not sure what to tell you about height maybe medium power about 20-24" above them for a start and lower it if it looks like theyre doing ok, hopefully someone will be by and help you out soon tho 🙂
@stootie so wat ph do u make the water. Yea i was thinking putting the lights medium power n around 15 to 20 inches. My mind went foggy with the ph numbers with water
@shirley-boi I just use 50/50 rain and de-chlorinated tap water, I started off collecting rain in coffee jars but I have a barrel set up to catch it now. When the plants are bigger and getting normal feeding I usually mix 1/2 a litre of tap and 1/2 litre of rain water and add the feed and thats it.
Old mother nature doesn't go about with a PH meter, she just uses straight rain, I could be using 100% rain now I suppose but 50/50 is working out fine 🙂

In soil its best to keep the water Ph between 6.3 - 6.8 i usually set it at 6.5 regardless of the source to help prevent Ph issues from arising.
