Evening gents,

First newbie question.

What are your thoughts on this (I know it's not natural) however, it seems a lot of people are saying they'll  never go back to natural vegging hours...

Thanks guys

Matthew/ toploader 👊

I use 24/7 for rooting clones

once rooted as with all veg I run 20/4 or 18/6 for bigger plants (as they use more space and therefore electricity !)

Not sure there’s evidence to show 24/7  produces quicker growth or larger yields. I know some auto growers use 24/7 but personally I think you may as well save 4hrs of £/$/ or € on electric.

The exception might be if your temps drop too much with your lights off and it costs the same to run a heater.

Also what is ‘natural vegging hours’? Surely that’s only achieved outdoors or in a greenhouse or does that mean 18/6 ?
What are you thinking of running Matthew? Autos or photos

Well with the seedlings the same as chillbert 6-8 days max  , but some nagging feeling in my head won't let me do it much , possibly the old timers from druid land , kind of" put yourself in their shoes "if that makes sence ,and I may be so far wrong these days I don't know ,but im a nightmare if I don't sleep and the plant has things it only does in the dark I think

@chillbert

I'm planning on photos, and thought that a 24/7 schedule would help the process on a little (but dont wont to stress them to much)

With so much information out there (having done loads of research) it's getting difficult to choose a schedule to start with, as they're so many.

My problem is, I dont want to start growing with a system, and half way through get distracted with things like this (if you know what I mean)

To be honest, I think I'm overthinking the whole process....lol

@matthew-elton you’re right there is so much info out there and easy to get distracted by minor details ...

Plants like consistency from the start so I’d keep it simple..

Tinkering with light timings is experimenting for little gain..

The big things are environment as in temps, humidity, light intensity, air circulation, irrigation  and nutrition.. keep these dialled in and the plant will do the rest!!

Plants are used to having some rest, they can only grow so fast, and they already do grow very fast for a plant.. only so much juice you can get out of a lemon tree

Hope it help.. good luck bro

I run my clones 24/0 and veg time, well depending on the time of year for me, could run the lights 16/8 in the summer and 24/0 in the winter, keeping the day and night temps in range is the most important thing.

Photo seeds use about half the electricity of auto seeds ( based on you having a low watt veg light)

8 weeks in flower at 12 hours is about 672 hours,  (photo seeds) often veg for a 5-7 days under dimmed flower light

So it's more like 770h including veg time under flower light and low watt veg light.

11 weeks in flower at 20h is about 1540 hours (auto seeds)

If you want to grow in the most cost effective system, it's got to be soil, you can get amazing results with nearly a free layout, bag of soil, dried plant food and some pots

Look at some of the hydro system will cost £100's to set up.

@jacks_farm yea I dig that , truth be told I'm 4-5 year in coco and only now seeing in the flesh what the substraight can do , up until this summer i was playing with it , yep there is an outlay and feed to run off daily , soon adds up 20% of each plant a day is waste ,will have some actual figures from the grow off with regard to totals used in feed and wattage per gram , that info will be gold comparatively

That would be very interesting but for me it's not only that, say hps vs leds

Hps give you the pyramid view and adding a large fan on one end of My flower room does not shadow the plants underneath and the same for the filter the other end, I can really cover 100% of my room with light  looking into different led systems look very expensive to buy to cover 100% of my room in high quality light and take years to become more cost effective.

Most growers don't know it there going to be growing in 6 months (family life, law)

My last grow, soil cost about £10 and sand cost 1.80p

might of used £10 in dry food and I pulled something like 750g ( need check back on my grow)

Electric cost about £200 for the crop

So that's say £222 (750g)

That's £8.28p per zip

@jacks_farm those figures are something else swapping the 600w will save again  you tend to sacrifice a bit of heat depending on your plants location with led but , that said what's new and top of the range is outdated 12 months from release,  led are still finding there feet , the big bulb firms are in on it now though osram ect so expect new tech again , but percys lads are pulling serious yeild with mars hydros and some cases the first gen units , if you want the best advice in the world , migro shane Jack,  forget other reviews,  hes a top top man , was watching his reviews before I was percy

@woolieback

Just been looking up fc3000 (Mars hydro ) looks great but I need 3 lights as each light covers a 3ft x 3ft so 3 lights will cover my 2.5ft x 7ft room and give my plants plenty of light

Every led review I have seen says the light gets weak quick at the light footprint edges

The lights are 300w each (900w) and I will have real problems with my fans and filters so I may only get 2 lights in my room and cover a canopy more like 5.5ft x 2.5ft (lots of wasted space)

And they cost £285 each.

migro shane had a top scientist in plant growth under different spectrum of light (sep 2018) and he said commercial growers use hps because there more effective and the plants use very little blue in flower, went on to say hps has got the perfect light spectrum for flower (Shane did not know what to say)

Leds are more effective but not in flower because its the wrong levels of useable light in mid late flower

Leds are perfect for veg and very early flower.

Spent a long time researching this and the science and keeps putting me off.
