so I’ve germed some regular seeds and I want to know which are make asap...
what is the fastest way to do this?
I have some thoughts but any others experiences / ideas I’d be keen to hear please
firstly I have read about a guy who states seeds can often be sexed by looking at them. I have tried this before and so far I got 3/3 female seeds so there may be something in this but I’m sure it has limitations.
I’ll add the reference later for this if I can find it again but it focuses on looking at the base of the seed and examining for certain features which indicate whether the seed is likely to be male or female. Also the overall shape I believe he said can give clues.
This theory has never been popular or well published a couple reasons:
1) it won’t be possible to accurately judge all seeds sex, only the more obvious / clear examples displaying known traits of sex
2) feminised seed producers wouldn’t like to to be true for obvious reasons
So anyway, time will soon tell if my seed sexing score goes up using this method. I’d explain but it’s too complicated for my stoned mind atm and easier to give the reference if I can find it!
So.. moving on..
now my seeds have all germed without should I
a) give 12/12 to seedlings ASAP to show sex in 1-2 weeks then flip back to 18/6 with the females and remove males?
b) wait til I can take small cuttings and put under 12/12 whilst rooting ?
c) anybody got a better idea ?

The seed sexing theory is widely dismissed and I’m not suggesting all seeds can be sexed but possibly some, from some varieties, some of the time lol so I’m not recommending this to be clear but interested to see if there’s any truths involved

Update:
So 3 seeds selected as suspected as female using seed sex recognition guide ..
grew out til two sets of leaves appeared (for 10 days) under 20/4 light schedule then moved to 12/12.
all kept in small pots (2L)
after 2 weeks the first seedling has shown her pistels 😀
she has now moved back to 20/4 light schedule to veg a couple weeks before I flower her.
The genetics are Old Timer 1 pre-skunk no1 genetics sold under the name of roadkill skunk (there’s a future cannabis project programme on their history)
they are a skunk male used to open pollinate a collection of land race females collected from across the globe by old timer during the 60’s and 70’s.
Apparently some of Old Timer’s breeding work went into the making of skunk no1 by Sam the Skunkman in the 70’s.
so basically I could get anything from a Congo skunk cross to an Afghan .. but it should be unique !

I believe this second one to be male.. first sign of a singe pollen sack at base of top left shoot (plant was topped a few days ago)
The male is on the left, female on the right. Middle one hasn’t revealed itself yet..
maybe tomorrow...?
haven’t chucked the male yet.. might leave him couple days to be absolutely sure
and think about whether I might collect some pollen for fresh freezing and later use ???

So said male, who I’ve decided to call womble for now, was castrated of his lonesome pollen ball sack, and returned to 20 hours of full spectrum.. while I decide if I’m gonna keep him to stud, or keep it simple and compost him!
Maybe the noble womble is a more apt name now .. ? 🥲
not sure if I fancy seed making yet but there’s only one way to learn these things 🤫
