Good day fellow growers!!

I have recently started a couple of clones in dirt. I am pretty new to the hobby so I wanna take advantage of the knowledge in this group to help me achieve happy healthy mother plants.

DB1C61A6 C4E2 45E1 AAFF 745CCC26FAEC

This is the dirt that I used. I used 30l plastic pots with holes in the bottom and trays beneath.

#1. Any feedback on my choice of dirt or pots?

#2. What ph level should I be looking for in my water? Can I use tap water? Better to use rain water? Is there a certain alkalinity level that would be best?

#3. Should I be using any kind of plant food or fertilizer and if so , when and how often?

I am open to any ideas, tips, tricks, do’s, don’ts or any suggestive criticism that will help me grow happiness

thanks in advance

are you indoors or outdoors mate?

The soil looks ok, might be a bit strong for young plants, have the clones got roots yet? Or have you just taken them? Using rain water is best, but not easy. Tap water will be fine, but leave it to stand for 24 hours before using it to let the chlorine evaporate, this will reduce the effect the chlorine will have on the microbes in the soil.

The soil is probably treated, so you wont have to worry about the pH too much, as it will have a wide buffer, but 6.5-7.5 will work fine for you.

30L pot is huge for a cutting though... could have started in smaller pots and made your way up mate. tell me more about whats going on Smile

What strain of clones?

I use this dirt for a good base mix. The nutrients (low levels of) that come in the bag only last about 2 months, so it depends on how you want to go about it. synthetic nutrients ( others will have more knowledge on this) but in general there are  stater , veg , and bloom specific nutrients. Or organic method by getting specific amendments that hold the nutrients the plant want, if you have anywhere to get some kelp flour, alfalfa meal, some good worm castings these make the plants super happy.

With organic it is more about having the nutrients in the soil already and available for the plant so when they need it, it is there. If the soil has what it needs good ol water is all you need to add. Where as with liquid fertz you have a schedule of feeding

I would reccomend fabric pots if possible they are great to ensure proper aeration

Hope this helps!

Totally great answer. With fabric pots, watch for mould growth underneath.  1/2” cedar stakes work great or just a cedar plank for the pot to sit on. Try to premix your worm castings into your dirt as it is gold.

Thanks guys!! Appreciate the input. These two plants will spend their lives indoors.  They are currently in a 4’x4’ tent. They are cliippings taken from a sour diesel plant about 2 months ago so yes they have pretty good roots. They spent the first 6 weeks in rockwool on a temperature controlled heat pad in a mini solarium. As mentioned in the original post these will be mother plants.

Ah i see! Mmm love diesels. I am unfamiliar with mother plants and there specific needs and won't pretend like i do! ?

Worth noting: If you only have the one tent though you will need a separate one for flowering, or remove the mothers and put them under another veg light while you flip the plants in the tent to flower cycle

I must have failed to mention.....I do have two tents. I have a 4’x4’ x 7’ tall for veggin and a 4’x8’x7’ tent for flowering. I have these 2 started in the small tent under t5 grow lights. I currently have my DWC going in the big tent with 6 plants that I will be harvesting in the next week or so.
