I just pulled two males from the tent and when I put my hand in the soil to get the roots I noticed how warm it was from the black pot, warm temps in the tent, and humidity, wondering if anyone waters with ice cubes?

@laughingdragon hi there

I don’t water with ice cubes but I’ve heard of people doing it when water only last week or so of flower to reduce temps/ cause stress for resin production/ induce senescence/ nice purple colours etc

what kinda temps is your soil?
good luck with your grow

Time to pop some more beans 😗

@chillbert at the moment with lights on it is reading 27-28c, I will report back with night temps later.

Much appreciated, learning from the best here.

@laughingdragon are you in plastic pots? They can warm up a bit so make the soil feel warm.. warm is better than cold to a point... pots should be typical room temps.

if you have some fresh compost on your soil it can cause extra heat because it hasn’t finished ‘cooking’ or breaking down properly... pretty unusual for home growers though I’d’ve thought

your temps are good so I shouldn’t think got anything to worry about soil wise

👍

@chillbert Phew! Was worried that like VPD I would have a new metric to monitor, far too many plants are either males or are autoflowers flowering after 2 weeks.

Cool LaughingDragon...

Posting pics if you’re concerned about anything is always very helpful here

Have you a humidity meter? (Hygrometer) worth getting one (£10-20 ($15-25)  to monitor humidity levels which are important especially when you’ve got big buds growing

Have you been growing long out of interest?

@chillbert I do, currently using a Govee.

I popped my first seed in 2018 and recently completed my 5th harvest, 1 auto and 4 micros, then had a spur of bad luck with males, spiders, and out of control humidity, only recently have I got things back under control thanks to @HOHG and @Percy's.

I have an Amnesia cross that is nearing harvest, the next time in the tent I will snap some photos, maybe enter it in the contest too!

@laughingdragon

nice man- definitely enter it bro! Makes it all the more fun!!
unlucky with the bad luck, it can happen to anyone .. I grow organic so often have small amounts of pest pressure but easy enough to manage when spotted early!
Glad you’re enjoying being in and making the most of the awesome community here !

Thats awesome man Smile Always like to hear we are helping people grow easier Smile

The temps of the pots, it should not really go over 23c, starts to get a bit too warm there and the roots will be effected. Sometime the light shining down onto the pots will warm them up, especially if using HPS or something like that.

You can put something reflective over the top of the pots, and this will help reflect the heat and light back upwards and away from the pots. Which can reduce the temps by a few degrees.

But lets see some pics and we can figure out what to do Smile

The root zone likes water between 18-23c. Anythign out side of that range can potential shock the roots and cause problems. Hope this helps mate
