This week, I received a new Invisible Sun LED Grow Light. I have been a big fan of Invisible Sun for a while, and I have been wanting to try their lights out for a long time, and now, I get the chance.
The way Invisible Sun LED Lighting works can be difficult to understand, and all of the numbers like “PAR” and “PPE” can be confusing, especially for new growers. I have been growing a long time, and the numbers still baffle me. This diary is intended to show you what these lights do, without the need to understand all those numbers.
In this Invisible Sun LED Grow Diary, I will be testing out the ISH 480, in a 1m x 1m x 2m grow tent. I will be growing 4 autos, from their 3rd week, under this light for the rest of their life cycle, under 18 hours of light a day.
This is a standard way, not just me, but many auto growers use to grow their auto flowering plants. I am expecting to see awesome results from this light, with the ability to replace a 800W HID light, and its exceptional PAR, this is possibly the best grow light I have had the pleasure of using.

The ISH 480, is a model of lighting that Invisible Sun make for a 1m² grow space. Because it spreads across a length of 89cm, and 56cm in width, it has amazing coverage, ensuring all corners of your tent can get the light it needs.
This is perfect for growing cannabis in a screen of green (scrog) as the footprint of the light is much greater and delivers a much better quality of light, not only to more places at the top of the plants, but deeper into the canopy too.
Also, because the ISH 480, does not require heat sink, you can get it closer to the canopy, without the risk of burning the plants. This gives the ISH 480 better coverage all round.
With a 450w draw from the wall, but an output equivalent to a 800w HID light, we should see the ISH 480 perform well!
I will be placing the ISH 480 into a 1m x 1m x 2m grow tent. This is what Invisible Sun recommended for this model of LED lighting. It can be used in a 1m x 2m tent for vegetating plants. But for a full grow, it should be used in a 1m x 1m grow space.
I will be using a standard 5 inch RVK extractor for my extraction. And a small tower fan in the early days of veg, but move up to a more power fan as the plants get bigger.
The autos are 3 weeks old, and have just gone under their new light. They are in 10L airpots, filled with 100% coco.
Medium and Nutrients
I love growing in coco, it is my go to medium, so I will be (of course) going with coco whilst testing the Invisible Sun LED. I will also be using my usual nutrients (CANNA) so I can get some kind of idea of what the difference the ISH 480 makes.
Always a quality medium, pre treated and ready to grow in. If coco isn’t treated properly before using it to grow cannabis, you will suffer with Cal/Mag deficiencies early on. CANNA coco, has already been treated, and buffered, and is reliable. This is my prefered medium, and what I will be using for this grow.
I have used many different nutrient ranges, but for the last few grows, I have been using CANNA. I figure, if they make the coco I always use, I should try their nutrients too.
I have been impressed with the results, and the price of CANNA, and because I have used this for the last few grows, again, it will give me a good idea of the difference the ISH 480 makes, compared to my usual grow lighting.
I like to use a silica additive from around week 3 in veg, up until week five in flower. This helps keep the plants growing strong, and healthily. My favourite brand for silica is Buddhas Tree Solar Green
Also, just incase I might need to top up the cal mag to prevent a deficiency, I have Vitalink Cal/Mag.
EC and pH Meter
You can’t underestimate the importance of accurate pH and EC, so I have good reliable meters. To measure my pH, I have a Blue Lab pH Pen, and for EC, I have the Hanna Groline EC Meter.
Because this is a tester grow, I would like to grow strains I have grown before, so again, I can get a good idea of what this light can do compared to other lighting I have used. The strains are all autoflowering strains, that will be grown on 18 hours of light a day with 6 hours darkness, this is my usual cycle for autos.

The Overall Plan for the Invisible Sun LED Grow
The ISH 480 is a strong light, to prevent it being too powerful for my seedlings, they have been under a lower wattage LED for 3 weeks. Now they are ready to head under the light.
The plan is to let them grow to the fourth node (they are nearly there now) and then top at the third node. They will be fed on just Canna A and B, with the occasional bit of Rhizo, and a small amount of silica.
During the grow, the plants will be trained with LST, until flowers begin to fully form. At this point, training will be stopped, and the nutrients will be changed.
During flower, I will reduce the amount of A and B I give to the plants, and increase the EC by increasing the amount of PK in the feed. This is when I may need to add some extra Cal Mag to bring up the trace levels in the nutrient solution.
The plants will be harvested probably past their expected date, as I like to have a little bit of amber trichomes on my buds. But we are a long way from that right now.
