Hi everyone, Its time to calibrate my Blulab pH pen again so I thought I'd do a quick thread about how I do it👍
It's really important to use a pH pen to monitor the pH of your water, if you have a problem with your girls, the first thing anybody is going to ask you is what's the pH going in and the pH coming out. Incorrect pH can cause all manner of plant issues so it's important to keep your pen calibrated.
I use GT's pH 7 & 4 buffering solutions. I'll have a clean glass of tap water ready and two 60ml plastic measuring cups.
First I'll rinse the pen in clean water
Then pour some pH7 buffer solution into one of the plastic cups, press the Cal button and watch zeros go across the screen. Once you see four zeros then pen will be calibrated for that solution.
Rinse the pen in fresh water and then repeat the above steps for pH 4 buffer solution.
Finally rinse the pen one last time and your done👍
Remember to keep the probe tip wet all the time, you can't let it dry out or the Pen won't ever work reliably again.
Hope that may be of interest to someone.
Cheers Leo🤛

Nice one mate {percysemojis}
Manufacturer says to re-calibrate every 4 weeks, I do it every 2 weeks and I notice a difference.

Hi Leo,
Great calibration post. I have the same Bluelab pen.
Hope you don’t mind me adding, but when keeping your pen wet it is important to use 3 molar storage solution. Where I work we have a lot of pH probes for testing. They needing replacement a lot and when looking into the reason behind their short lifespan I found out keeping them just in water shortened their durability.
You can buy pH storage solution at your hydro store or make it by combining 27.96g of KCL (potassium chloride) with 100ml of water.
