I'm loving this, Adam, but what is your source of nutrition? Did you mix your own living soil, and if so, what recipe? Commercial mix?  Good luck bro! Feel free to just ask if you need anything.

Bottom four inches is lava rock. Don't mind the five gallon fabric pot in the middle of the bed.... That's just where I set it that day.

20240323 140908

Perlight, small lava rock, buffered Cocoa core, warm castings, and forest soil. All Sifted nicely. 7 five gallon bucket in total were needed To fill up the middle layer of the soil bed.

20240330 121433

Dumped it all on to a tarp in the basement and mixed it all up. I did throw some cover crop on top after this point from build a soil.

20240406 203823

I'm probably around 40 gallons instead of 45 five.... I suppose it's a way of testing the soil with this run And having a little room to make adjustments If needed.

Transplanted yesterday And covered with leaves to retain Is moisture for now..... The worms maybe even come up a little higher Since they have cover from the light!!!

Wrapped everything but The bottom 4 inches with plastic wrap to keep the moisture in.

Here we go 💨💨💨✌️✌️✌️

Nice! Did you put any myco in there? I'm sure it already does from the forest dirt.

Looks great Adam, did you add any calcium, lime or some kind of rock dust?

Looking good, Adam! Just wondering if you have checked nutrient values and ph?  Looks like you are going to have an adventure!  Also, I am wondering what you put above your milk crates to support the bed.

 @im_sparky @mitsos I have not.

I have not had the soil tested......I've got w c a... But haven't added anything to the soil specifically For calcium yet.

I still have at least five gallons of space to add after this grow.... This is kind of a fine tuning run. Sometimes I learn better hands on and it was time for me to just get this thing going. I told myself I needed to start a diary on this.....  get it posted so you guys could help me find tune this thing Because i've been driving my mind crazy over it!!!! 🤣🤣🤣

I'm trying to locally source everything I can...... Every interview I listen To the pros are talking about locally sourcing everything possible... I decided I was doing that after the first interview with marco.. Then Jeremy and then Mr. Trump's (Chris)... I kind of want to do a mix of all their stuff.

Wonder if I could locally source some rock dust??? I'm seven months in on this growing adventure.. always learning something new!!  Thanks again!!

@aadam6om6 A soil test (just a cheap one from the big-box store) can tell you a lot. They are tedious, but helpful.  That is the info you need in order to fine-tune your inputs. Well, maybe not need, but at least it would help you know where you are at instead of dealing with deficiencies in plants later, which really show up about 10-14 days after the fact.

@aadam6om6 At first its a huge pain in the a$$. Plan on it taking about an hour your first time, but it gets easier and quicker the more you do it.  Also, keep in mind that because they use a tiny sample size of soil, you do not get precise results. However, you do get very useful info that lets you know where your soil is at as far as being high/med/low in N,P,K and fairly close with pH. It's important to follow the directions and to get a good, average sample.  Some kits also require distilled water, but not all.

@im_sparky I'll post the results up on here right away........ I am going to get some two roll malted barley..... I'm just gonna put it on top and let my worms go to work, would you grind it up first?   I also just got back from a sturgeon fishing trip and had a bunch of night crawlers left over....I threw them in there to help aerate the soil over time.

@aadam6om6 I am not an expert, but I would think that if you were able to easily grind it up, it would be more available to the insects and microbes.

@aadam6om6 Got it. I put mine on a plastic pallet that just happened to fit and just happened to be almost free. It’s good to get air under those fabric beds.

Keep in mind you can water in that WCA now to prevent a deficiency later. If you have hard water then itmay not be necessary but Epsom may be for potassium (K).  I’ve buried old bananas (full of K) before in living soil — worms love ‘em. Full disclosure: Bananas are very long-lived as trees and as a result, they pick up a lot of terrestrial radiation. They are the second most radioactive item in a typical household after smoke detectors.  Given that cannabis is a bio-accumulator, I personally would not be going bananas over bananas!

Looks like you might be a little low on N, too. You can get P from rock phosphate, bone meal, and fish emulsion.  There is usually high P in chicken manure. Whatever you use, be careful to check how it affects the other macro nutes (N and K) as well.  The easiest to raise mainly P is bone meal. It comes in around 3-18-0.

@im_sparky thanks again bro....  this definitely going to be an adventure !! I know how I am.......Half the stuff I read I don't retain anyway!! 🤣🤣🤣 So I had to just start it....  I knew I was gonna run into some deficiencies.

I knew you guys would get me turned in the right direction once I started. So here we are!! Lol  I left plenty of room In the soil bed to add stuff as needed. Looks like I better get started with bone meal.

I did have to give them some OMRI fertilizers that I had left over From the last run.... A little bit of deficiency is showing.

When I get back from the Colorado trip next week I'm going to get some leaf Mold from the gutters On the back side of the garage That i've never cleaned because it's basically in the woods...... and a trip out to the woods to grab a bunch of that Good stuff from under that tree That fell twenty years ago. hoping to get this soil tuned with this run.

 Seriously, thanks again!!

Mimosa 👇 Deficiency can be seen on big fan leaf tip on left sidetip.

Granddaddy purple! Every leaf since the very beginning has been uglier than shit!!! It's been ugly since the start... But i'm letting it fly!!! 👇

And this is just an accidental seed I made that I got out of the orange bud auto 👇

@aadam6om6 Don't feed anything adam, it takes a while for the plants to establish in heavy organic soil, especially when it's a fresh mix. Anticipate up to a month of funky slow growth before they go into turbo mode. And when they do, they are going to grow fast and big in all that volume of soil. Just let them build their inhabitant, sit back and enjoy.

@mitsos I sure can attest to the growing part, as of today. Holy moly is she taking off. Girl looks like she grew 1/8-1/4" overnight. Shocked me even though I had been warned it would happen. The past 3 weeks have been kinda what you would expect from a new plant...slow and steady.

The GDP looks like she might want something. I believe calcium deficiency can cause twisting of the foliage like that iirc. Someone here was talking about that not long ago but I’m not sure who it was… maybe Sparky??

yes -- distorted and twisted leaves are a strong indicator of Ca deficiency in the plant. However, the deficiency can happen when there is enough Ca in the soil, but when the plant does not have access to it (e.g., not enough water or too much water prevents uptake of Ca).  Hope that helps. Fixing this now, if you can find the true root of the problem, will really bolster growth later. Ca is sort of a powerhouse engine for plant metabolism.
