So! Here we go, welcome to Mackys Jack Herrer Grow Diary! This is the grow diary for the Seedsman Jack Herrer grow off.
Jack Herrer is one of my personal favourites, I have grown the Seedsman variety before, and it was incredible. When Seedsman asked what strain we would like to have in a grow off, this had to be our top choice.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone grow some of their own, it is a very enjoyable strain to grow and smoke. Your going to love it!
Let's get down to business, and talk about how these seeds are going to be grown.
Lighting
Invisible Sun LED Light Used, ISH 480
Invisible Sun, specialise in horticultural LED lighting. They are the UK's number one supplier of high range LEDs for growers.
The ISH 480, is a model of light that spreads across a length of 89cm, and 56cm in width. It has amazing coverage, ensuring all corners of your tent can get the light it needs.
This is perfect for growing cannabis in a screen of green (scrog) as the footprint of the light is much greater and delivers a much better quality of light, not only to more places at the top of the plants, but deeper into the canopy too.
With a 450w draw from the wall, but an output equivalent to a 800w HID light, we should see the ISH 480 perform well!
The Equipment
Though the ISH 480 is best for a 1m x 1m tent, I will be flowering the Jack herer, in a 1.2 x 1.2 (4 ft x 4ft) grow tent. This is because i will be scrogging the plants, but leaving ten centimetres space around the edges to avoid the buds touching the walls.
I will be using a standard 5 inch RVK extractor for my extraction, with a carbon filter. There will be fans in the grow tent too to keep air well circulated.
Medium and Nutrients
I'm going to grow the Jack Herrer in Canna Coco Professional, and use the Canna Range of nutrients. I have been growing in coco, and using canna for a while now, and always had great results. So this will be my chosen method for this grow too.
Medium, Canna Coco
Always a quality medium, pre treated and ready to grow in. If coco isn't treated properly before using it to grow cannabis, you will suffer with Cal/Mag deficiencies early on. CANNA coco, has already been treated, and buffered. This is my prefered medium, and what I will be using for this grow.
Nutrients
Though I have used many different nutrient ranges, I have been using CANNA for my last few grows. I figure, if they make the coco I always use, I should try their nutrients too. I have been impressed with the results, and the price of CANNA.
Additional Nutrients
I like to use a silica additive from around week 3 in veg, up until week five in flower. This helps keep the plants growing strong, and healthy. My favourite brand for silica is Buddhas Tree Solar Green
Also, just incase I might need to top up the cal mag to prevent a deficiency, I have Vitalink Cal/Mag.
And of course, to help with adjusting pH level, I have pH up, and pH down.
EC and pH Meter
You can't underestimate the importance of accurate pH and EC, so I have good reliable meters. To measure my pH, I have a Blue Lab pH Pen, and for EC, I have the Hanna Groline EC Meter.
Jack Herrer, The Strain
The Jack Herrer strain was named in honour of the late cannabis activist, polemicist and author of the all-time classic "The Emperor Wears No Clothes". It has become established as something of a classic marijuana strain itself combining as it does the out-there euphoric, cerebral effect of a pure sativa strain with the resin-producing qualities of a pure indica. It was originally created by Sensi Seeds by crossing a Haze with a Northern Lights #5 x Shiva Skunk cross.

The Plan for the Jack Herrer Grow Off
I plant to grow these plants for their whole lives under the ISH 480. The light is intense, but I think if I leave a good distance between the plants and the light, the plants can gradually grow into the light, and not be stressed too much.
I would really like to see, if it'll work. Maybe it'll be too much, and the ISH 480 is a strong light. But I have to try it, the type of light given out by the ISH is far better than any other light I have, so I want the plants to be used to it asap.
The plan is to let 4 x Jack Herrer grow to the third or fourth node and then top them. They will be fed on just Canna A and B, with the occasional bit of Rhizo, and a small amount of silica.
After the plants have been topped, they will be trained for a week or so, to get into the right structure. The will then be trained into the screen, and veg until around 2/3rds of the screen is full. At this point the plants will be flipped to flower.
There will about 2-3 weeks of " the stretch", the plants will be trained throughout the stretch, until flowers begin to form. I will lollypop the plants and this point, level off all of the branches for a good even canopy, and then let the plants flower.
The plants will be harvested probably past their expected date, as I like to have a little bit of amber trichomes on my buds.
Updates
I will be updating the dairy here, a few times a week with pictures. I will also be making videos of the progress once a week for our youtube channel.
If anyone would like to grow along with me, you have links to everything you need in this post, so feel free to click and buy from the links provided.
Germination
Here are the seeds:
5 of Seedsman Finsest Jack Herrer. I will be popping four of these.
They will be soaked for a few hours n water, and then planted straight into coco.
Should see a shoot with in a couple of days.
They are soaking as we speak. I am now going to prare some coco in the posts, and plant them.
Next update will be done later this evening, when they are happy in their new home.
Good Luck Everyone!
Just want to say, good luck everyone, I really hope you enjoying growing the Jack Herrer. It really is a quality strain, that you will want to grow again and again.
Big shout out to Tom at Seeedsman too, for giving us the oppurtunity to run this aweosme grow off. Rememebr, they was not only geneorus enough to provide us with free seeds, but they will also give a €250 vouchers to the best dairy at the end of the grow off!!
Entry is closed!! No more can enter. I have sent all addresses to Seedsman, and your seeds should be with you already, or on the way.
Have fun everyone!
Wow Macky ya legend, im watching this!!!
Heck yes!
BRING IT ON
Just kidding, haha. Nice setup as always mang, excited for this one.. ?
Pulling up my seat I cant wait to watch this one.
Ok, threw together a video of me planting the seeds, its late, so its dark, lighting isnt great but i did what I could lol. If any of you'll want to add some youtube vid to our channel then let me know we find a way to get them on too
As I await patiently for my JH seeds. I see now the bar has been set very, very high for the grow diary.
Nicely done macky excited as hell to watch this??
Can’t wait to receive the beans. I have made room for them so I can start them right away.
Here they are!!
Took the lid off about an hour ago for the first time to be greeted by these happy babies.
Now they sit in the shade of their 3 big sisters, about 5ft away from the ISH 480, lets see how they do.... Im hope they don't get fried lol
These girls stretched!!! Which tells me im too far away from the light, that's good, it shows the seedlings can handle it, its just about finding the best distance now.
I took the seedling from the coco, and re buried them deeper as they were like 2 inches tall. I'll get a video up tomorrow of their progress. They are now much closer to the ish, lets hope its not too close. Maybe 3 ft now
So, with the end of week one, nothing has really happened, but they survived the ISH!
I had them around 5 ft away from the light initially, and they stretch badly. I took them out of the pot, and reburied them at a decent height. They seem to be well settled now.
The light still seems a bit strong, but I would prefer them to get used to it asap, and start booming in growth lol.
To feed them, I get 3l of water, and add 2.5ml, of A, and 2.5 ml of B, ph the water, and feed. Right now i'm doing this every other day, to try and encourage root growth.
Another week or so like this, and they will be ready for transplanting.
Looking good mackers
Looking great! I can’t wait to get them and my photo poll prize
Makes me wish I had the space to play as well. Maybe next one though
Damn! Mine just popped out of the soil... I'll catch up though, just you wait. ? Looking excellent though mang, excited to see this IS crush it.
